One of my early spiritual experiences occurred when I was playing semi-professional soccer shortly after graduating from college. I was completely immersed in the game and pushing my body and creativity to its limits. All of a sudden, my sense of boundaries disappeared. I entered a state of consciousness where there was no sense of separation from who I was and the fabric of life itself, and the usual self-consciousness or sense of individual identity had vanished. There was just the presence of a profound awareness that was free from any definitions of myself and the world. I experienced a state of flow where everything that was happening was connected, giving me much a heightened sensitivity and awareness to what was occurring all around me. Playing was effortless and blissfully free from any fear or desire.
The experience only lasted a little while until I started to become self-conscious of this state of awareness. That experience inspired me beyond all of my psychic experiences to try to understand what had happened to me, knowing that much greater potentials lay ahead...
